Lalitha Lajmi

b. 1932

Lalitha Lajmi is a self-taught artist who began painting from 1961
onwards. Early in her career she taught art in a school. By the
mid-80s, she was doing etchings, oils and watercolours. She has
held more than twenty solo shows in several prestigious galleries
in India including the Prithvi Art Gallery, Pundole Art Gallery
and Gallery 7 in Mumbai, Apparao Galleries in Chennai and
Art Heritage in Delhi. She has also participated in many shows
in England, Yugoslavia and the Netherlands. Lalitha Lajmi has
been awarded grants for exhibitions in Germany and the USA.
She was honoured twice by the Bombay Art Society, and she
is represented in many public collections including the British
Museum, UK. She was the recipient of the Government of India
Junior Fellowship from 1979 to 1983. She lives and works in
Mumbai.
